— Internship Opportunities

Internship Program

Kickstart your future! Start your career with people who care!

An internship at Schwartz Farms is more than a summer experience — it’s a chance to learn how a family-owned, Minnesota-based farming operation works from the ground up. Each year, we select a small group of students, creating a close-knit program that allows for real-world experience, meaningful mentorship, and a front-row seat to modern agriculture.

Whether you’re exploring a career in animal science, operations, maintenance, or business, you’ll gain hands-on skills while becoming part of a team that values humility, care, integrity, discipline, and excellence.

Why Intern With Schwartz Farms?

At Schwartz Farms, interns aren’t observers—they’re contributors. We believe the best way to learn is by doing, and we take pride in helping students build confidence, develop new skills, and gain clarity about their future.

This internship is what you make it.

You’ll leave with more than experience on your résumé—you’ll leave with perspective, meaningful connections, and a professional network that can support you long after your internship ends. Through mentorship, collaboration, and opportunities to connect with fellow interns and employees across the company, you’ll build relationships that could last a lifetime.

As a supportive, family-oriented company, we’re committed to helping you grow—not only as a professional, but as a person. Our goal is to equip you with skills, experiences, and connections that will benefit you well beyond your time at Schwartz Farms.

  • – Hands on exposure to every step of the production process – from breeding and gestation to farrowing, gilt development, nurseries, and finishers
  • – Focus on a specific area of production based on your specific interest
  • – Mentorship from experienced team members, including veterinarians, site managers, and other key leaders
  • – Visit a research barn, feed mill, and processing plant
  • – Attend the Minnesota Pork Board’s Young Leaders in Agriculture Conference
  • – Get involved in team activities like employee picnics, parades, golf outings, and more
  • – Opportunity to lead or contribute to an independent research project

Interns gain practical, real-world knowledge that connects classroom learning to everyday application. Depending on your role, you may learn how to:

  • – Work safely and responsibly in an agricultural setting
  • – Understand modern livestock care and best practices
  • – Collaborate with team members across departments
  • – Problem-solve in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
  • – Build confidence as a professional

We’re committed to teaching the “why” behind the work — not just the work itself.

To be considered for the internship program, candidates must:

  • – Be eligible to work in the U.S. and provide appropriate identification
  • – Maintain strict biosecurity—interns may not work or live with anyone involved in another swine operation during the internship
  • – Have reliable transportation
  • – Be pursuing a degree in swine science, animal science, or a related field
  • – Be seeking a career in the pork industry or a related agricultural profession
  • – Competitive hourly pay (please inquire)
  • – Hands-on training and mentorship
  • – A supportive, team-oriented work environment
  • – Housing provided, if needed
  • – Milage reimbursement, above your daily commute
  • – Opportunities to build professional skills and industry connections

One of the things I remember most about my internship(s) at Schwartz Farms was how involved I was in day-to-day operations and projects from the very beginning. These internships gave me the opportunity to gain real-world experience while working alongside people who were always willing to answer questions and help me grow in the profession.

The opportunity as an intern helped me develop communication, problem-solving and organizational skills that I still use in my role today. It also gave me a better understanding of the agriculture and feed industry that helped shape the career path I wanted to pursue.

The culture at Schwartz Farms is what made the experience meaningful to me. Every day, I felt supported, valued and trusted with responsibilities that helped me grow both professionally and personally. The internship prepared me well for a full-time role by giving me a hands-on experience and exposure to different areas of the business.

For anyone considering an internship at Schwartz Farms, I’d say it’s a great opportunity to learn, grow, and gain practical experience in a supportive environment.

            – Jackson H. (2023 Accounting Intern)
Currently working full time as a Feed Administrator.

Interning for Schwartz helped shape my career path not only through the hands-on experience I gained, but also by helping me understand what I value in a company and workplace culture. I learned that it’s important to love the work you do while also feeling connected to the mission and culture of the company. The experience helped me grow professionally by building confidence in my abilities and learning from people who genuinely cared about my development. I would highly recommend a Schwartz Farms internship to anyone looking for meaningful experience, growth, and a supportive team environment.

Currently working full time as a Wean – Finish Facility Care Specialist.
